Kurt Chappell opened Chappell Hearing Care Centers in 1986 and still runs it today with his wife Autumn. John Cobb, a retired Doctor of Audiology, joined the practice as its audiology consultant after becoming a patient himself. Here is who you will actually meet at 4736 Bryant Irvin Rd.
Locally owned, forty years running
A family business, not a franchise
Chappell Hearing Care Centers is locally and family owned, and identifies as a woman owned business. Kurt earned his BBA in Management at Southwest Texas State University, has taught on the Texas State Board of Exams for Hearing Aid Specialists, and in 1991 worked alongside a physician on research that helped develop the first invisible hearing aid. He keeps up ongoing training in digital hearing aid technology and later received the Outstanding Service Award from ReSound for his work with patients. He and Autumn still run the office together on Bryant Irvin Road.

Kurt A. Chappell, B.B.A.
Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser, Client Director and Owner
Kurt opened the practice in 1986 and still runs it today, alongside his wife Autumn. He earned his BBA in Management from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, and has taught on the Texas State Board of Exams for Hearing Aid Specialists. In 1991 he worked with a physician on research that helped develop the first invisible hearing aid.
Outside the office, Kurt and Autumn have five daughters and three grandchildren. He raises Japanese Koi.
John Cobb, AuD
Doctor of Audiology (Retired), Audiology Consultant
John spent 45 years as a working audiologist before retiring in 2021. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Arizona and his doctorate from the Arizona School of Health Sciences, and served in the U.S. Navy. He was Coordinator of Audiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, then spent thirty years working alongside an ear, nose and throat doctor in Fort Worth, then ten more years at a practice in Green Valley, Arizona, before retiring.
In the 1960s, John played in a rock band. The hearing loss it left him with in both ears is the reason he has worn hearing aids himself for more than thirty years. He became a patient of Kurt and Autumn's while looking for better technology, and they asked him to join the practice as its audiology consultant.
Community work
The wall in the waiting room
Every year, Kurt leads the practice's Annual Hearing Missions, traveling to Colombia, including a trip to Santa Marta, along with the Dominican Republic, Haiti and parts of Africa, plus mission work closer to home, to fit hearing aids for people who could not otherwise afford them. The practice partners with the nonprofit Operation Go Quickly, and the missions are funded in part by patient donations and by Signia, Oaktree and Metrix.
